A Lost Kirkbride

Once thought of as "state of the art", Kirkbride buildings where a big part of the mental health industry in the latter part of the 1900's. Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride played a major role in the development of these buildings. He believed in standardizing mental health treatment through living conditions and population control. This theory was eventually called the "Kirkbride Plan". Unfortunately State funding lead these massive structures into the ground.

What you see here is Worcester State Hospital, It was recently demolished by the state of Massachusetts. All that stands is this administration building (which will be re-used in the new construction). This was one of the last Kirkbride buildings left in the northeast. I'm glad i got to see it before it was gone.

This shot has a sense of foreboding, maybe more like it has a dark past. Well done.

Incredible photograph, has a feel of being taken a century ago!
Very distressing that it was torn down as it appears to be so unique and historical.

Strong image. The towch seems lost in the fog helps to understand better the fate of this building. A good choice: really good!
